Wigan Rambling & Climbing Club

We are a friendly bunch and new members will always be made welcome. If you fancy some exercise and fresh air in pleasant countryside, come and join us on one of our walks, there is something for everyone.

Wigan Rambling and Climbing Club hold social evenings every Tuesday at 8:15pm during the winter months at Wigan Cricket Club.

Social events include quizzes, slide shows, talks, demonstrations, darts and dominoes. We also organise walking weekends in Spring and Autumn.

Rambling

Each month we run a Sunday coach ramble to a variety of destinations

The coach departs Wigan Mesnes Park Terrace at 8am and gets back to Wigan between 6pm and 8pm depending on time of year and walk destination.

We usually pick up at Standish if heading towards the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales. We can pick up at Ashton if heading towards Wales or the Peak District.

There is usually a choice of three walks, A, B and C with A walks between 12 to 15 miles, B walks 10 to 12 miles and C walks under 9 miles, so there is something for everyone.

Coaches cost £9

On the other Sundays in the month we run car rambles to a variety of destinations, we also have short evening walks of 2 to 4 miles during the summer months in the Wigan area on Tuesday evenings.

These start at 7:20pm and finish approx 9pm with people usually stopping for a drink and a chat afterwards.

Climbing

Wigan Climbing Club regularly attend The North West Face in Warrington an excellent Church conversion, run by people who care about their wall.

This is reflected in the good atmosphere of the place, and the quality of the route setting. The grades are very realistic and not "soft touch" , and the routes emulate real climbing very well. The Livingstone wall is as close as it gets to real gritstone on a climbing wall.
